Royal Sapphire Seaform

Chihuly’s fascination with water is lifelong, and he has often remarked that it is the fluid, translucent qualities shared by water and glass that inspire him.​

In his Royal Sapphire Seaform Studio Edition, a cerulean rondel seemingly opens up to present two interior forms. The thin walls of these forms are ringed in sapphire body wraps, creating a ripple pattern that recalls shadows and refractions on a sandy ocean floor. A cadmium yellow lip wrap traces the outer edges of each element, from an elegant loop to a wild undulation that echoes the crests and troughs of a wave.
